Krepl V. – Kapila F.P. – Havrland B. – Komárek F. :
Farm Machinery for Crop Production.
Textbook ITS, CUA Prague, 2004, 200 p, ISBN 80-213-1098-7.

The textbooks are intended for students of agricultural universities dealing with agricultural courses in developing countries. The textbooks also are used for training users of agricultural machines in tropical and subtropical areas.
The publication is divided into 8 chapters. Each chapter deals with a group of machines used for a specific stage of agricultural production or for cultivation, harvest, storage of the specific product or group products. The publication contains 140 text pages, several figures and tables, and a rich English-Czech vocabulary terminology relating to contents of 60 pages.
Chapters treating the specific stage of production include soil preparation, ploughing, activities of planting machines, fertilization, plant protection and harvest. The basic theme is certainly the machinery used for different activities. The individual groups of machines are so maintained homogeneously. The basic breakdown includes the simplest installations, automatic systems, and follows the description of security, rules for maintenance and adjustment, cleaning and storage during the period out of season.
Details for service and adjustment are sometimes mentioned for the farmers’ needs. The practical directives are more instructive and usable for practice, but sometimes too concrete. From the above mentioned observations, it is obvious that, it is a matter of small inadequacy. It is important to highlight the systematic character and complexity of the submitted publication.
The textbooks will be a good contribution to students’ and participants’ courses in developing countries. For this reason, I recommend this particular textbook for publication.
